Creativity

Serving and expressing inner truth.

When you hear the word creative you may think of musical artists like John Mayer or Beyoncé Painters like Da Vinci or Monet. As a society, we carry a belief that creativity is available only to a select few. Only those blessed with some otherworldly talent, those we throw renown and money at, can be creative.

Would you tell a child whose fingerpainting or crafting songs that don’t “make sense” they’re not creative?

If you would, you might just be an asshole.

When you strip away any expectation of skill or aesthetic appeal, what does it mean to be creative?

Self-expression.

To be creative is simply to express the self, the infallible truth within you. It’s not something you do with your mind, but with your heart. Because in the heart there’s no “right” or “wrong”, “better” or “worse.” There’s just that wordless knowing that yearns to be expressed through you, as you.

In that way, anything can be creative, it’s not restricted to a brush or microphone. Baking, conversation, programming, on and on.

Regardless of where we’re at, we can’t not express ourselves. But the more we transform, the deeper we go into ourselves, the more important it is to be creative. To share ourselves and our truth with the world.

In that way, creativity is a gift. It's a gift not only to yourself but to everyone. It's you being as you are. Which in turn, permissions others to be as they are. By expressing your inner truth, you see yourself clearly. And in doing so, you create a space for others to be seen as they are.

The magic of creativity is the more we express ourselves, the more we discover, the more we transform. And then lo and behold, we need to be expressed again! It's a beautiful cycle.

During our transformational journeys, the space to be creative is crucial. We need to be in deep conversation with ourselves to uncover the wisdom that has always been there, waiting for us to tune in.
